FREDY HUACHOHUILLCA
Fredy Huachohuillca is part of a new generation of coffee farmers who are actively participating in the specialty coffee market. He acquired his farm, or chacra, in one of the highest-altitude areas of the Pacaybamba Valley. At this elevation, he cultivates exclusively Geisha varieties and is currently reforesting his side of the mountainside with native shade tree species commonly found in the surrounding forest.
"Geisha Inca" is the local name for the SL9 variety, also known as a traditional Ethiopian landrace, which has naturally evolved in the region over several decades. These varieties were long neglected due to their low yields, but thanks to Fredy's expert quality management, more of these remarkable coffee trees are now being planted at even higher elevations. The results have been outstanding, delivering exceptional cup quality while generating tangible benefits for the local community.
