The Santa Inês farm is owned by the Sertão Group, a family business with more than 100 years of history in the production and sales of high quality coffee. In an effort to secure and promote environmentally sustainable practices, programs have been implemented to preserve sources of water, wildlife, forests, other vegetation and soil. Coffee husks after depulping, which are rich in nutrients, are used as fertilizer and organic matter in coffee production.
The Sertão Group employs approximately 135 families who reside in the area throughout the year. These families make up the core of the Sertão permanent team and have free, good quality housing, running water, electricity & food. In addition, on-site schools are provided with fully qualified teachers for primary and secondary education, on-site medical and dental care, soccer fields and fishing ponds.
